Clearinghouse 37th Annual Meeting - 29 October - 3 November 2010 - Buenos Aires

Advices and Hints

UPDATED 10.02.27

BEFORE LEAVING HOME:

VISAS

The only 4 countries in the Clearinghouse that need visa to enter Argentina are CHINA, CUBA, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, and UKRAINE.

TAXES

Other 3 countries need to pay an entrance fee (Reciprocity Tax)

AUSTRALIA
100 US $
CANADA
70 US $
USA
131 US $

This “reciprocity tax” equals the price those countries charge to Argentinians for a tourist visa.
No visa needed to enter Argentina, but its cost has to be paid. Do not ask me why. See below how to pay.

CLOTHING

You are not coming to a tropical country.
Expected temperatures can be found at http://www.weather.com/  that is the usual ones in the mid-spring season at these latitudes (36o 30’ S), at sea level. Even thought informal clothing is accepted at our meetings, ties and suits or blazers are usually ware at medical meetings.

ON ARRIVAL:

TAX
Before going through migration, you will find a booth to pay the arrival tax, if carrying an American, Australian, or Canadian passport. Credit cards are accepted.

LUGGAGE
After migration you will pick up your luggage at the belt announced in a TV display, which is usually wrong (Look at the other belts too).

TRANSPORTATION
After clearing customs you will go through a sliding door, and immediately to your left you will see the counter for Manuel Tienda Leon, among other transportation agencies. This one I recommend. Two types of transportation are offered there:

A cab, called Remise (About 45 US$), and a Bus, called Bus (Bout 17 US$), which for 2 US$ more offers a “delivery service” for which the bus will take you to a central station, and a small van will take you from there to your hotel. All these prices are posted, credit cards are accepted, and receipts are issued. Tipping is not necessary.

AS IN ANY OTHER CITY DO NOT ACCEPT OTHER OFFERS FROM UNKNOWNS.

MONEY EXCHANGE

Before you proceed towards the second sliding door, to your right insight you will see the booth for the national bank: Banco de la Nación, where you can change into local currency (pesos), which rate is about 4.00 to pesos to one US dollar.
